How Secure are Garmin 500/800 mounts?

Thanks all, the stories above are all positive (barring the offs , I hope everbody recovered from their's).

I just bought an 800. It seems secure with the rubber bands 'cross mounted'. Setting up the sat nav seems a bit complicated tho!

Rock solid, just do as suggested here mount the bands in a x formation.

I found mine easy enough initially but because i tend to set things up and then leave well alone, whenever i take a secondary look i find 'new' features

Well I have only used it once so it's early days but it kept saying that I was 'off course' when I kepy exactly to the route I had set in the communicator.
