Examples of shorts with a technical pad: Assos, de-marchi
Examples of more 'basic' shorts: endura, trek.

Examples of bonj not realising there are a range of differing levels of garments from a range of differing companies....

+1 for Endura FS260 pros. I've also got "standard" FS260s that are also pretty good. Either they are deliberately cut tighter than the pros or the material has more compression.

BTW - if you're shopping around and all prices are around the same you can get £5 off at Wiggle (for purchases over £50) by changing your pref's - adding swimming or running. They'll send you a discount code by E-Mail.

I'm trying to psych myself up to spending £70 on some new bib shorts. Until now I've never spent more than about £12 on any kind of shorts.

Where does your comfort zone for shorts end?

Matthew

Depends on the depth of one's pockets.

Generally my legs go before my anatomy in the seat area.

If your £12 shorts are comfortable why spend £70 on replacements? Just get more of the same. The elevated price of shorts does not necessarily correlate with a greater level of comfort.

It would depend how long my ass was sitting on the bike for.
Currently it's 1 hour a day which means I can get away with cheap ones from decathlon.

They aren't especially comfortable and in any case I want some bibs that fit me.

I had similar thoughts three months back and have not regreted punting £70 on a pair of Santini's. That gel twist pad is seriously comfortable compared to the De Marchi's it replaced.

Sizing needs a bit of thought - they are built for slim Italians. XL is just right for me against my normal L in say endura.

I've been in touch with Andy at Prendas and he seems pretty sure a small will work for me in bibs. Jersey sizing seems a bit awkward though as my chest size would make me an XS but they may not be big enough over all.

You didn't say this in your OP.

In any case you're rather economical with your pleasantaries
so maybe next time you won't get such a good response
when you ask for advice.

At least thanking people for their replies whether you find them helpful or
not goes a long way in my book. To do otherwise is just bad manners.

I wasn't trying to be snarky, I'm sorry if my post came across that way. I should have littered it with smilies like I usually do.

I started this thread because I was curious about what people considered an acceptable amount to pay for cycling shorts. Any advice on choice of shorts I got was a bonus.

Oh, and thanks for taking the trouble to reply, I do actually appreciate it.
