Change it when the colour is no longer fashionable....
I wouldn't care but as my kids got older they would no longer ride with me cos I had beige tape on my Galaxy.
The black Bontrager non-adhesive tape I got from my LBS is very comfortable - but I'm sure it won't last 20 years like the old stuff.
