Really? I'll try to be in shorts for the whole of winter but if it drops to 0C I have some bib longsSaw a rider at the weekend. A cold wet November morning - wearing "shorts"!

I was riding round Kent in shorts at the weekend. It wasn't really cold at all. Rainy and windy yes, but it was quite mild. I am a beginner though. What I will become when I've finished beginning I have no idea.Saw a rider at the weekend. A cold wet November morning - wearing "shorts"!

I've progressed to at least that level then! I think I've learned to recognise the signs of a fellow cyclist in need of a hand after being extended the hand of kindness a couple of times myself. Mind you I was beating the bike with a branch a la Basil Fawlty at the time.I think I have a new one. When you see someone pushing a bike at the side of the road and stop to ask if they need a hand/inner tube etc.
I'm more inclined to where my long bibs at the slightest hint of a temperatre drop. Even though it's not actually cold at the moment, I'm still mentall conditioned to covering up at this time of yea! I'd have thought the short-wearer in question is too hardcore to be a genuine beginner!Really? I'll try to be in shorts for the whole of winter but if it drops to 0C I have some bib longs
It's the risk of knee damage from the cold. When I was starting out, rode an early season race when it was very cold. After the race, the knee started hurting and lasted for several weeks. Even now, almost 50 years later, I get knee pains from time to time. As soon as it gets cold, I cover up.I'm still confused as to what wearing shorts has to do with anything.
