Yeah, I heard that if you were standing at the water's edge, and the sea was calm, then the horizon was 11 miles away. But that's probably changed now, what with all this global bollox warming!
If you were looking along the Oresund there is a weird false Horizon on the water caused by the meeting of water flowing out of tha Baltic and the tidal effect of the North sea flowing around Denmark to meet it. It looks really weird to see just the superstructure of a ship that looks close, but the bulk of it is below the false Horizon as there is a strange hump of water between you and the ship which is much less than 12 miles away. Hard to explain, but gives the feeling that one has consumed too much Pripps.
