how far on a hybrid?

As has already been said, a hybrid that is set up for you will take you as far as you want to go. I think bar ends are pretty essential to give alternative hand postitions. I have done a couple of hundred milers on mine and when it comes to choosing between my roadbike or the hybrid for a ride it is the weather and how much gear I want to carry that makes the choice, just as happy to clock up the miles on either bike and there doesn't appear to be much difference in speed or effort.

A hundred, at the weekend. I done one hundred before that, on a decent road bike, but not any faster, easier or more comfortable on one or the other. If anything the hybrid was more enjoyable coz I could have a look around the scenery too.

I used to ride 50-60 miles regularly on a hardtail mtb with slick tyres, and rode a couple of charity 100miles on it fine.

I then skipped getting a hybrid and got a road bike.
