2 miles according to my ordinance survey atlas of great britain,,, but the sand may well have shifted since it was published... guessing by the openmaps data, 2.5miles.
Mine was a guesstimate using a ruler and a 1:50 000 Ordnance Survey map

We were in Southport on Sunday, and the tide was out. We walked out to at least twice the length of the pier (which is just over a Km long), maybe a couple of miles, and still weren't anywhere near. Anyone know how far from the seafront it is at low tide? (roughly. I know it'll vary a bit)

I tried googling, and can't find a useful answer. I found a Yahoo question "Why doesn't the tide come in at Southport" to which one person answered "It does come in some days but it's hard to see because it's mostly at night". God there are some thickos out there!

Km Long is he the leader of North Korea?

We like Southport. It's a good mix of faded grandeur and true British tat. If we want a day at the seaside over this side of the country we go there. Crosby is a better beach for interest (both the sculptures and odds and ends of rockpool), but there aren't so many opportunities for a cuppa.

I haven't got round to the OS maps for over here yet, must do that.

Next time your over, take a trip down to Formby/Freshfield beach. Nice walk along fishermans path or through the woods onto the dunes. Plus plenty of places in formby for a cuppa.

Or if you fancy a really nice long, flat bike ride, get yourselves over the river to Seacombe, and you can ride along traffic free paths all the way round the coast to West Kirkby! I'm hoping to take my new 2nd hand Catrike over there once I've got it later this week for a bit of practice!
