i live 12miles from work but usually choose a 20mile each way trip, not every day cause I'm a shift worker and finish at midnight 2 or 3 nights a week. lucky to have cycling work colleagues living nearby so at times there are 4 of us together meeting at points along the route in.

So when you do the 7 miles do you have your son on the back of the bike ?
Otherwise 10 to 15 vg.

Yes. I pretty much always do the short route in, as I'm usually running late! Then if it's a nursery day (my son's nursery is at the hospital where I work) I also do the short route home, so c. 14 miles total. If not, I usually do 10 miles home, or I have another route that's 14 miles, so total on those days will be 27-30 miles.

He's getting a bit heavy though - time for a tagalong bike early next year, or maybe I can convince the lady that I can buy a Circe Helios that he can go on the back of.

Well done for some of the commutes on here... so here is a shameless plug for CycleChats MyCyclingLog team

Register here to log your rides. There is a bit of rivalry going on with our Aussie cousins, so those who are not currently logging, your mileage would be very welcome.

Just joined up, and sent request to join the group.
I wonder if there's a handy way to automatically or at least easily update it from Endomondo, which is where I track all my miles.

So is he literally on your back like an eskimo or do you have like a rack that can seat a child.
Sounds like a fun approach.

10 miles on main roads or 12 miles on back roads (with only 1 mile on an "A" road) usually 2 or 3 times per week. Another guys at work drives 35 miles, parks his car, then cycles the last 8 miles to and from work every day.

Also as I am 55 people think i am bonkers to cycle to and from work.

I think other "normal" people thinking cyclists are bonkers is a pretty general phenomenon and tbh i can kinda see why.

Between 26 and 34 miles each day. Nearer to 34 than 26

Towards the upper end of the spectrum - 5 days a week i presume .
Do you have any concerns about air pollution qaz.

Yes, 5 days a week.
Am I worried about air pollution? No, when I took the tram/train/bus/tube I was getting a cold every few months. I've not had a cold since I've started cyclin to work.
Some studies have shown that you breath in more pollution when sitting in your car than you do when walking or cycling. I'm not putting my mouth over the exhaust of every car I pass ;)

Sometimes yes. All part of the game. I do enjoy it sometimes. Especially good when going up Bromley Hill. And even better when you pee a sky clad roadie out the back. (They don't like cyclists in baggies and with panniers doing that  )
Pleased to hear it.
