Hi, just got back from a 10mile ride across reasonably flat terrain and consumed a full 750ml bottle of squash. Am now sat here thinking if I go further I will need another bottle.
Is 10miles on one bottle of water average or too excessive. I only stopped 3 times for a drink.
Cheers John.

I done 50 miles and had half that amount. Would depend on how hot it was.

I cycled 56 miles yesterday and didnt finish my 650ml bottle of squash. I was out with a group of more mature riders, and the average speed was 10.8mph. If I had been out alone at my more regular speed, I would have consumed at least 2 x 650ml bottles over the same distance. Weather, route, & how hard you're pushing yourself would be contributing factors in liquid consumption.

How much you need to drink depends on lots of factors including temperature, terrain, how fast you are going, how thirsty you were before you set off etc.. On a hot day I take two bottles if going over say 20 miles. I dont always drink both but it's better to have too much than too little.

Ok cheers guys. I was averaging 12mph so maybe I need to work on reducing my intake a bit. Or not going out in long cargo trousers t-shirt and a half zip fleece.

10 miles, unless a hot day, I'd probably have a few mouthfuls of water at most...probably a cup of tea when I got back though depending on what/where/when

Were you really that thirsty, were you hydrated before? Are you diabetic?
Or very new to cycling?

Yeah I was comfortable throughout the ride. Just stopped a couple of times to rest the legs for a min or two and admire the views and instinctively went for the bottle.

booze and cake

probably out cycling
In autumn/winter I don't drink as much, it's pretty humid at the moment tho so getting through more at the moment. I did a 144 mile ride yesterday, 9 hours of riding and drank 4 bottles.....and may have washed them all down with a few extra hydrating beers afterwards^_^
