First off you may only be up to 4 miles and get a sore bum at that! But then leave it a day and try again and it will be a bit easier.
I got from that level to a 54 mile London Brighton ride in 2 months.
Enter some ride to give you a target and motivation.
As it is heading for winter - sort out things to wear in the wet and things to wear in the cold. Also a good set of lights are worth getting along with some reflective gear to wear in the dark.
I also think a mirror is good to keep an eye on your rear. Gives you confidence in traffic if you are new to it. Read up on how you should ride (bit of assertiveness is key). And enjoy it!
Oh and you will need to budget for smaller size trousers. Weight may not drop too much as you swap it for muscle (so dont go by that).
