I am in the tribe of ' if it is worn or broken just replace it, if it is partly worn just replace it and if you fiddle with it and break it then just replace it. I record total miles on bikes so I know to replace them at few thousand miles

Which is great if you have nothing else to do...

I just fix/replace stuff when I realise that I need to. I make a note in my diary in case I forget. I also have a blackboard in my kitchen on which I leave notes to myself. I have an unreliable memory so I know that I need to be at least slightly organised or chaos would ensue.

Which reminds me ... I noticed on Friday's metric century ride that my CAAD5's brake blocks will need changing soon - must add a note on the blackboard!

What is this "replacing of bikes" about which you speak...sounds like the devils own business to me.

Well more than a case of 'add another to the stable'.

I have a blackboard.... I forget to look at it:blush:

I use reminders on the phone too but again hey are only any good if you look at it.

I use audible alarms on my phone. I have my Warfarin doses programmed in for each day of the week and an alarm goes off every evening and reminds me what to take. I also set alarms in advance for special events like forum rides, or other things that I must not miss such as doctor's appointments or catching trains.

The normal clock alarms only go by day of the week, but I can use S Planner to set alarms arbitrarily far in advance.

Keep the receipt with the handbook for your bike, that way you can check when you purchased something, and you will have record of what changes you've made should the bike go missing.

Spreadsheet.

I record the date and length of each ride. The date of each major work done (i.e service of the hubs or headset), the date of part replacement and the mileage that part had done (chain, brake pads).

Me too. It's useful for tracking mileage on chains and cogs etc, particularly if you are swapping bits and pieces between bikes.

I have a hardcover writing pad, with dividers for each bike.
I record the date of changing chains, servicing hubs, etc, or any other job me or the lbs did on that bike.
Strava was very good, you could upload then edit the ride choosing the bike you rode, so I used to know exactly the milage of each bike. Now that it goes through Garmin Connect, I can't be bothered to edit each ride, but know more or less how many miles each bike did in the year.
This time every year I have a bike permanently fitted with the ice tyres, so I don't need to record that.
Spreadsheets are the way to go for sure, but I don't know how to use them ... yet!
Disclaimer: not because I'm a dummy lol but because I do not use computers in my line of work ^_^
