I went for a ride today  , wanted to use my road bike which i got late summer last year, ive been using my hybrid mostly. thought id stat by pumping the tyres up, i used my mini pump which is suppose to be a decent one and pump in both directions, inside is a little slotted screw head or so it appears.
I looked at the tyre and that has an additional small nipple im not used to on my hybrid, i started trying to put the pump on and after much struggling id let out all the air and snapped the nipple of inside the pump, ARRGHHHH

So i went out on my hybrid instead :shy:

Now i have a flat tyre on my road bike, i presume i need a new inner tube, but how do i pump it up?

You simply unscrew that nipple before attaching a pump an screw it shut after. Btw a decent track pump makes the job a whole lot easier.

first off what mini pump is it? some have not got the required connection to pump both presta and scharder valves some u need to unscrew the connector on the pump and turn the inside piece round for it to fit

That looks like the same pump that my OH binned a while back because she couldn't figure out how to make it work with presta valves. I think it's one of the ones where you have to unscrew the connector and turn it round, as qwiksilver said, but she still struggled with it once she'd done that.

Get yourself a Joe Blow track pump. Even with my girly muscles, I can get 100+ psi in without breaking a sweat.

ok well i havent used one of those but im guessing that the grey piece of the connector at the end unscrews and if you flip the lever at the bk the inside piece will come out and should be reversable, if it appears the inside piece is in 2 parts you may need to turn them around and reconnect them back up but the clue is in the circumference and depth of the inside if that makes sense then put it back inside the connect screw the grey piece bk on and hey presta (excuse the pun) it should work

at least i now have to change the tube, something i havnt done since i was a kid, so its good practice for me

straight after this i started to pump up my hybrid tyres using my double foot pump which is brill, it went right down!!!!! i realised the tube in the pump was split. so i got out my new track pump ive never used, it worked well but tbh not as easy as my cheap double foot pump, at least the track pump does both my bikes
