It occurred to me the other day the I never clean the inside of my helmet. I let it dry out but that is it. It must look rather nasty under a microscope. How do people (who use them) clean there helmets?

I just give it the occasional wipe out with the ubiquitous baby wipe. To be honest I don't worry too much. Any germs in it will be my own germs, it doesn't smell, so my baby wipe routine must be adequate.

Upon re-reading I take it you are referring to the helmet on your head.............

I have heard of people taking them into the shower with them, haven't tried it myself though.
Mine just stays dirty and smelly, less chance of it getting nicked from the bike racks at work

I use a buff winter and summer and after two years I've never cleaned the road helmet, which smells fine. Agreed though that my knackered old mountain biking helmet really honks but I used to be able to wring sweat out of the pads just by pressing it against my head. I used to take it in the shower and wash the pads with Biactol.

I use a scull cap to soak up the sweat - that's washed every day. Once a week I'll just chuck the helmet in the bath whilst I have a shower, then just rinse the bubbles off. Easy.

Get's rid of sweat build up. Saves those rides when it rains heavily, and all you get is stinging liquid coming out of the helmet.

I just run it under the tap, moving it round a bit to make sure the water gets in where it needs to, then dry it in sunlight. I've tried getting people to blow on it, but the police objected.
