I'd been on tour with a rock band for nearly 9 months of solid back to back gigs, and at the end of the tour I was knackered.
I got a call from my stepfather to say he had booked a 2 week walking holiday in Crete for me and him.
( I don't think turning it down was an option)
A girl of much the same age had been very ill for several months and after leaving hospital went with a friend to gig, just to see if she could still do it. They had a great night out, even got chatting to one of the Roadies.
Having missed out on a holiday to Italy earlier in the year due to the illness, they decided to go on a walking holiday in Crete
The two girls got bored of being hit on by the locals and the other single males in our group latched themselves onto me and my step dad, assuming we were a gay couple (I'd didn't call him Dad, and we have different surnames, and we were obviously not just friends with a big age difference), once the 'what do you do?' question came up we realised that the "roadie" they had been taking to was my business partner, and when the holiday was over we decided to meet up in London as a sort of a date (4 of us!).
34 years later we are still together.
It took us 8 years to actually spend 30 consecutive days together (We both used to travel a lot for work)
11 years before we did Christmas together (Parents over 300 miles apart)
and 15 years before we got married (Try before you buy)
