Cav reminds me of Cippollini - Cipo always found a way through somehow - also a real extrovert who often brought controversy and excitement to road finishes. I think he was on the TdF this year advising some team or other.

Cippolini took extrovert to the next level.

Just looked at Cipo's palmares - I hadn't realised how good he was - he holds the Giro stage win records at 42 stages.
Amazing. Then tried to look for the tiger suit and tiger bike in the TdF or Giro when he was fined for incvorrect clothing but only found a photo on Cycling News that is copyrighted!
We need more characters like him. Was it Phil Anderson that used to do interviews on TdF live whilst cycling - I remember him explaining on Eurosport how they went to the loo whilst riding.
Happy Days!

I think the point (which I tried to make in the football example) is you are born with an innate ability and practice hones it rather than the other way round. Practice doesn't make perfect - talent+practice make perfect.

Can't argue with that, the only times I have been placed in bunch sprints have been on uphil drags usually with a headwind, all about timing and getting the right wheel, as for flat fast sprints, I wish I'd had the talent.

Difference is that Cav pushes himself over the mountain stages in the Tour, Cipo threw in the towel as soon as the road went up, hence he never won the green jersey or the final Paris sprint.
