i thought that was against the rules?

What, looking down? I doubt it. All he is doing is just looking down, where any normal person would be looking where they are going.
Its also a carbon frame he has, he wrote the forks off but thinks the frame is still ok. So we are waiting for him to be going along and then have it snap on him. He hasnt had it tested, and i dont think he wants it tested.
It is a very very expensive bike though.

i remember once doing a club tt and there were people placed at strategic points to make sure riders were looking where they were going. anyone not doing so was disqualified.

most (if not all) tt-ers i see about are looking forward, even with an aero position.

Has no one mentioned larger gears? There is an article in bike radar which is going for the old skool hour TT record and his gear inches are huge!!! I mean literally huge, there is a 63 front matched to a 12 rear. with your legs turning those you will be flying along. I think the technical term for the front ring is a dinner plate though.

Stop peddling, and took down.
Shift your arse back, move your hands in closer and get your head down low, oh and keep your knees in.
It's been a long time since I descended a big hill but instead of shifting my arse back I used to get my arse up in the air and my nose practically on the front wheel. Aerodynamic? Yes Safe? No!

Doh! You know what I meant - people always say weight when they mean mass... Anyway, he can decrease the weight, by decreasing the mass. And since g is the same all over the planet it's essentially the same thing.

You're still missing the target.

Force in Newtons is kg x g.

The MORE Newtons you have, the more force.

The usual analogy is a ping-pong ball and a steel ball bearing the same size rolling down the same slope. Which one gets to bottom first?
On the moon, both together, but we have air on Earth to impede the motion.

MORE mass = more force.

bigger chainring and smaller gear on the back ;)

So that you can lower your cadence and get the power down still.

He'll fly downhill but something tells me he may struggle to climb hills on that bike...

I would not be too bothered with trying to increase my speed on descents that are straight any way although acheiveing better aerodynamics can't but help.

On winding descents its all about road-handling and nerve.

For increased speed overall I would concentrate on maxing out on the straight and churning out the ascents. This is where you'll gain performance.

Person doing TT hit the caravan with his shoulder and went into a ditch. He was riding like he normaly does, looking down at his back wheel because it makes him more aero:wacko:

Joe, it is against the rules, has been for many many years. TBH if he's looking down, then his aero helmet won't be aero - the tail needs to be flat on your back.

If the organisers got wind that he wasn't 'looking' he'll get a ban.
