Richard Branson started out in one, but suspect the novelty wore off. I used to spend a week on my boat which was ok then happy to get back to the house. Great fun but when you are 6ft 4 ......

Richard Branson turned his houseboat into the original Virgin office (his then secretary was a friend)
They soon grew out of the office and moved ashore and he sold the old houseboat.
Like many house boats it was difficult to keep warm in the winter, suffered from condensation, lack of space is an issue.

Most importantly you need to have a secure mooring.
Unless you want (and are able) to become a water gypsy, moving on every week or two.

Back in the 70's a friend lived on an amazing houseboat at Taggs Island on the Thames.
The hull was a stainless steel oblong box about 70x25' with the 3 cabins in the hull.
The kitchen and the living area, with a sunken living room and central fireplace (very James Bond) was at deck level.

I posted this on another thread, but it may be of interest. The blog it's part of has other houseboats. Look under the floating homes category.

A friend had one years ago, moored at Paddington Basin ( he worked locally). He got it stuck up near Northampton somewhere due to very low water levels ... he had to leave his boat there for a while and kip on another friend's floor back in London!
