Monty if I can help any further PM me. Ive already had enough of ^

the first mention of Lancs came from you, didn't it..? That's all I was asking.

Also, what's the problem in letting us know which council gives away free barriers..?? I would find that information very useful, as our own club could then use that as a 'lever' with the councils we are already working with. That would be really useful information for this thread.

The only event that I'm aware you were involved with was the Cardigan crit - and the barriers were not free there.

I'm sure that's true - but the OP never mentioned a location and the first mention of Lancs seems to be from you?

which council / which event?

A few of us have known Monty a little bit for a while and just might happen to know he goes to uni there  Maybe.. Might be...

That's fine - that's all anyone had to say. Lancs it is then.

Would still be good to know more about this 'free barriers from the council' thing though. Increased barrier costs led to at least one local event being cancelled this season, so if there is a way of reducing this cost, I'd be very interested to learn more about it. I know a lot of clubs would be very interested in this info, if 'Lukesdad' would care to share it...

Are you thinking of having it around Alex park or the perimeter road ? Alex park would be more practical. Hope it gets the go ahead

We'll take whatever, but there is also the issue of speed bumps which we will have to look into. Options are still wide open - we could even use off campus routes or the salt ayre track....but then that kind of defeats the objective

LD - I'll keep you in the loop

I was thinking about the speed bumps around the perimeter road. Some of the new ones are pretty severe

Depends what your aims are. If the aim is to fulfil your club's obligation for a 'duty promotion' (which is fine), then any available circuit will do. On the other hand, if you want to add a bit of variation to the local race calendar and put on a unique and interesting event which benefits more than just your Uni road club, then the campus circuit is worth looking into. I've organised both closed road events and closed circuit events - the closed road events are harder, but will get you a lot more entries if done right.

when you do, ask him where he gets his free barriers from - I think we'd all like to know.

We get our barriers FOC from the county councils highway dept. the council are only to willing to help in any way they can Ive found. Events like this are good PR for them.

Hello Lukesdad - any info on these barriers yet please? Very interested to know how we can reduce costs, so it would be great if you could give us the benefit of your knowledge here. Looking forward to hearing from you

(edit: I know he's reading it - and ignoring it. Make of that what you will - I know I have).

Just dug out the budget for last year's event - barrier cost was close to £900 and that wasn't even covering the full 1.2km route - if we had gone for full coverage, it would have been well over a grand, possibly up to £1300. Like I say, it was the biggest cost.

Obviously 'free' would have been nicer.... ;)
