Mainly a salary vs potential consideration, but there is a glut of cyclists looking for a team at the moment so many are struggling to get a team.

And then there are the question marks - having said that there must have been question marks before and didn't stop RadioShack signing him.

Graph of age vs probability of winning a grand tour.

The probably falls off a cliff at about 36......

Perhaps they knew of a new wonder drug that was either not yet on the banned list or as yet undetectable that helped Horners performance. Now times have caught up he is no longer an asset?? Or am I just far too cynical? Perhaps teams are just not willing to take such a big risk as they think his second wind is now long gone.

Best to go out on a high, 42 is "old" for a pro, and it's not likely any sane team manager will pay the sort of money he (or more likely agent) is likely to be asking. A question of value, when you can get quite a few younger prospects for the same total money, one of whom may just turn out to be a future leader. Time for a spell in the team car, maybe?
