Yes I read that Honda is taking over Nissan and Mitsubishi.

Why the analysts don't know.

Nissan's sales, debt are tanking Mitsubishi are also a basket case.

One comparison was buying Nissan is akin to buying Fisker when it was already projected to collapse.

Honda is not in a strong position either, so saddling themselves with two extremely financially precarious companies makes no practical sense.

One thought was they would be a bigger company to compete with Toyota.

Time will tell is Nissan just fizzles away

They're in discussions, nothing more that that at present, although I expect it'll happen.

On paper it'll be a merger, but with Hondas worldwide sales five times that of Nissan it'll be a takeover on all but name.

Whether it'll save the day or simply delay the inevitable is still very much open to question.

I used to have Nissan cars in the old days - probably about 6 or 7

They were good cars - a cut above the normal Vauxhall and stuff at the time

Last 2 cars have been Honda and they have been higher quality which is why I went for another one when the last one got old

Hopefully the concepts of Honda will stay

but I can;t see that a single company needs to have both ranges - but I suppose others do it so......

Stellantis merged all the basket car companies. Now they're in major financial trouble with dealerships struggling to sell inventory

Seems to me a Nissan rescue by Honda seems a much better fit than they had with Renault, which without deeper history seems to be where it all began to go wrong for Nissan. Quality and reliability reputedly fell under Renaults partnership.
Honda and Nissan will have similar values and history so again, a better fit.
Ii always think Honda are more a niche manufacturer, niche may not be the right word but a bit different. Working with Nissan may open up a much larger audience.

Just heard the news and they are saying the driving force is to combine their EV technology to compete in that sector

I agree with the Nissan/Renault stuff
some time ago I was chatting to a mechanic from a smll garage - I had a Nissan and they had "persuaded" a bloke from the local Nissan dealership to come over to find out what they had cocked up on by Micra
He said these cars are great - it is the Jukes that they have troublae with - and it is always from the Renault engine!!

I'm old enough to remember in the 70s or possibly early 80's when Alfa Romeo were selling the Arna, essentially a Nissan Cherry with the excellent Alfasud power train. Ironically it was rhe Nissan bit that turned put to be crap.

A lot of car companies risk catching a cold if they don't pull their finger out. Even Tesla are on questionable ground, with an ageing product range (and even shrinking product range as some models are excluded from certain countries/markets for various reasons) and profits that are OK in isolation but are a joke when compared to vast turnover. Their value is on paper by the manner in which the business side is structured and financed, and we all know what happens to paper when things heat up.

But all might not be bad. The Chinese economy is faltering as the government find it difficult to both subsidise industry and simultaneously extract enough to spend on world power stuff like their military.

But in a way it would almost be a shame if the legacy car manufacturers, including Tesla, survive because the Chinese cock thing up. They won't learn the lesson, and jn 10 or 15 years when the next major disruptor comes along, be it a rising economy in another country, new technology, or even a war, their demise will be even swifter than the slowly drawn out agony were seeing now.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Funny you should mention that as there was a corolla for sale on marketplace that was listed as a Nissan a d I just thought it was a mistake

nissan sentra i think may have been the name , to be fair i only see the shell so any internal differences i am not aware of apart but the badge at the front was the only real external visual clue
