Hill intervals?

I'm sure I read some training plan in cycling weakly or some such publication, along the lines of "find a 10 minute hill, ride up it easy noting HR, back down, then up it again at 110% previous rate, down and so on until you can't get to the top any more".

Does that sound right? Or suicidal?

I think you need to rest in between intervals and make sure you don't do them too often or you can hurt yourself

Isn't the rest the freewheeling down the hill? I have a perfect one near me, maybe 10%, couple of miles long, I'm just about fit enough now to think about it. Reminds me a lot of running training when I was at Uni and proper fit, I just followed and did it, little knowledge, till I lined up against Steve Cram in a cross country event, then I knew I was no good!

That sounds like a haphazard way to train.

Determine your threshold HR and ride up the hill 4-6 times at or near to your threshold HR. You'll see much bigger gains than doing it that daft Cycling Plus way or some macho bollocks like doing it til you spew.
