Just a quick one to say hello and introduce myself to all you forumites.

I'm Rikk, I ride mostly mtb on a Pace 405, but have very recently bought myself a Boardman hybrid to get out on the road a bit more.

As my forum name may suggest I'm an amputee and got into cycling to help recovery after an ankle operation, if anyone fancies a read I wrote an article about getting going on the bike to help other amputees.

http://www.eppinghardcru.co.uk/News/article/sid=30.html

It's a little out of date now but the more up to date one here http://www.uk-mtb.com/index.php?opt...nd-a-mountain-bike&catid=31:general&Itemid=67
I haven't got around to updating the pictures on yet.

I'm based in Sevenkings, East London so if anyone fancies a mtb or road ride locally give me a yell

Welcome, and good on yer! Your sort of story rather puts to shame all those people who claim they aren't fit enough to cycle (to work, or the shops, instead of drive), when in fact they are too lazy...

Don't forget to drop into Cafe, and partake of the virtual tea and meaningless drivel sparkling conversation...

Welcome Rikk. Thats impressive stuff.

I love using Dremels to attack things but even I'd draw the line at a prosthetic leg! I'm not surprised your Prosthetist was a bit miffed!

Thanks all ;)

Arch, yep it's one of the reasons I almost always wear shorts hoping that someone either disabled or as you say lazy may see me and think "well if he can so can I"

Welcome!

And now to get you on a road bike....

At the Bungay Crits some years back, there was a guy who was an amputee racing - one leg missing from the knee down didn't seem to hold him back at all.

Hi,

Once again, good on you. I am starting a degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics in the summer and it is storys like your that makes the field sound so interesting. Hope you have many happy miles on that Boardman.

Hi!

Hiya Rikk! I remember seeing some amputees on Tour of the Surrey Hills, and being completely amazed. I barely made it around I was so tired, I can't imagine how much harder it must have been.

Mikey, with that I'm my own worst enemy. I'm out with mates all the time and some of them are very fit indeed and I'm constantly thinking grrr why am I so slow...not keeping up...can't get over that etc, when in actual fact for the disabilities I have I'm doing fantastic, but I never look at it like that.
Sometimes I seriously need a reality slap
