Hi all,

Having been told i can no longer ride a motorcycle due to a recent neck op, caused by a accident which unknown to me broke my neck 19 years ago, I have decided i need to get fit (put on loads since the op).
So a friend and myself have been going out for a ride on sunday mornings, me with my mongoose crossway and him on something far more exotic.

Any way having got up to 10 miles per ride out without a heart attack, I thought i would treat myself to a propper road bike and get some road miles in. Im still very unfit but slowly getting there.

So I went out and bought a Specialized Allez Elite, very nice. I was supprised how easy this bike was to ride. I took it for a test ride, on return the chap in the shop said what did i think, how did i find it up the hill....I responded what hill.

Any way just thought id drop in and say hi and when im a bit more competant/fitter, may be see a few of you out some time.

Nice one. Nice bike too, I'm sure you'll enjoy the riding even more as you get fitter too. The bug takes over if you're not careful!

Welcome

Wlcome to the forum Philk I think you did the right thing getting a decent roadbike fairly early on.Far more enjoyable to ride in my opinion.

Best of luck with getting fit.I was seriously unfit and obese a year ago .now much fitter and lighter and wish I had got into cycling earlier.

Hi Phil

Now you're on a proper bike:biggrin: you'll discover the true meaning of speed. (Condolences on no more motorbikes: I still miss them, but really you can't expect knees to do both kinds of bikes!) You'll get to love that Allez Elite more than you can currently imagine.

Hi everyone.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Picked the bike up this morning and rode it back.
to keep the interest up i got the LBS to fit a speedo thing, it will give me a way of monitoring progress.

so first ride....
7 miles at an average of 10.7mph, i stopped once to die  after a big hill.

my target is 16 to 18 mph ave

Hope to see you out and around.

Phil

Philk,
good move getting a cycle computer right from the off. As the weeks go on it'll prove to you that you are getting faster/going longer and your weekly mileage is creeping up as compared to just thinking or hoping it's true!!!

Welcome and enjoy your new cycle. I've got the basic Allez, and have found it an easy transition and a comfortable ride (more so than I envisaged after switching from the MTB).
