Hi

I'm pretty new to road bikes. I recently bought a secondhand Planet X pro carbon with Rival/Force kit

I'm really struggling to change from the inner ring to outer, I have no problem changing gears, but the left hand lever is all a bit hit and miss

I'm pretty sure it's set up right as on my first outing the chain snapped and shredded the cassette, so they are both brand new and the chap in the shop had it working perfectly, he did show me how to do it but it was all a bit of a blur

Any help greatly appreciated

As per @vickster and the guide, just push the lever in and hold it until the chain takes to the big ring.

If the chain struggles to jump up then you'll need the front mech setting up again or the cable tension or limits altering.

To release to the small it's just a matter of pushing again. This time you'll get two clicks and the mech will return to the original position bringing the chain with it (with a bit of luck )

Thanks for your replies, I'm pretty sure that's what I'm doing, it seemed to work perfectly on the bike stand but out on the road it's a bit hit or miss

But 2 separate bike mechanics have said its fine, so I guess I just need more practice

I'm not sure which one I'm meant to be In as my MTB shifts from any cog

But generally when I start to run out of gears either up or down

It all seems a bit erratic, sometimes it moves a half across, sometimes it shifts and sometimes it does nothing yet on the stand it worked perfectly, plus I took it to another bike shop who assures me it was fine so I'm pretty sure its me

Sounds like limiter screws to me. It is usually just a long push. Out of interest are they chain bike shops you're going to or a little old bloke on the high street?
