Yup - if it's got the black castellated plastic sleeve then it's the same bearing. I've got M647s on my MTB and M530s on my road bike and even though the M647 are twice the price and include a better quality cartridge bearing there is very little difference between them. Like most things, if you look after and maintain them well they'll last ages.

If when my M647's ever need replacing I'll just get another pair of M530s - I really think they are that good

Just brought these http://www.tweekscycles.com/cycling...ke-shoes/diadora-escape-2-mountain-bike-shoes. Will let you know how they are when they arrive
Got out and did 28 miles on Friday with the new shoes. Worked really well having never ridden clip less before. Shoes are comfortable.

I have some Shimano 520s on my hybrid and a nice pair of Shimano MTB shoe which I love. Would it be ok to put these pedals on a road bike? My shoes have cleats with the 2 bolt system and I don't want to have to go to the expense of new pedals and road shoes which have a differnt cleat fitting don't they? Sorry for being a bit naive.

Yes - it is 100% fine; they are just pedals and shoes. I have the same on my bike.

Road Purists might insist on SPD-SL's and Bacofoil Road Shoes but just use what you've got and stick the money saved in your pension pot.
