I am not sure most companies do returns on helmets for the obvious hygiene reason. They are usually attached to the boxes pretty well so hard to remove without damaging the packaging

Evans quite often have good deals on helmets and you can try them on - they also happily match the likes of Wiggle. Best of both worlds

Got a good deal on the indicator, the next one up from the Skyline - I have had one of these for years, never an issue. Have universal sizing and good adjustments

If not a specs wearer, a cheap pair of cycling glasses is important for eye protection - especially useful when it's cold and windy

Thanks for all the advice so far, very much appreciated.
I have now bought a Helmet from my local shop. I have also got padded shorts, water bottle & cage and tyre repair kit for the bike.
The next things I am looking at are:
Winter Gloves - Anyone got any suggestions ?
Clipless pedals for Giant Rapid 4 - Anyone got any recommedations for entry level ?
Shoes to go with above pedals - Again ideas needed.
Thanks

Specialized do some very good shoes for not a lot of £££. I would go with SPD's to start with if you're not used to clipless. They're easier going and you can get cleats like SH56's that'll let your foot out at almost any angle. Pick some pedals that you like, they don't have to cost much.

Gloves are hit and miss. Cost has no bearing at all on how good they'll be. Do you want waterproof or just windproof?

I use a thin pair of close fitting gloves and a decent pair of gloves on top, my choice is castelli... the thing you need to also get is feel for the bars and brakes.. a heavily padded pair of gloves can reduce this.
I would advise visiting your LBS and trying on a selection. Unlike some people in this thread I believe its equally important to support your LBS as if they provide you with a good service this has as much value long term as web based discount.
