Thanks for the suggestion, but as you can see from above, I don't like the idea of using my phone.

Extremely secure. No way will it fall off. Comes with an anti dust and showerproof "jacket" as well.

I know what you mean about risking your phone, I am still on contract with my note 2 and didnt want to risk it either, however I found an unused galaxy ace ( which is a fairly low end smartphone) in a drawer and mounted this. I dont even have a sim card in it, but it makes for an excellent gps cycling computer.

Yep, they can be picked up used on ebay 30-50 quid, doesn't have to be in great condition, just working

I have an old mountain bike I use for the turbo trainer, on that I have a cycle computer with cadence... very cheap from china. ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/42-functi...K_SportGoods_CyclAcces_RL&hash=item23241209ba ) probably not very accurate but it does the job. I used this to try and follow "sufferfest" vids as the cadences suggested. It's great for getting a feel for what 80rpm really is and getting accustomed to riding at that level.

On the road bike I use a standard computer, I find my cadence is higher now from the training but I'll tend to spin at a level which feels comfortable and maintainable.

I've had a bottom-of-the-range Sigma BC1609 (from Decathlon) for the last couple of years, and I recently bought the cadence add-on (both wired).

A bit fiddly to wire up as I have a very thick stem and bars, but worth it in IMHO. I'm trying to stay in the 95-100 range and I expect that once I get used to that I'll rarely need to refer to the computer, but in the meantime I'm finding it very useful and I'm definitely less fatigued after long rides with higher cadence.

I disagree with some of the comments above saying cadence is a novelty etc. see http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/are-hrm-and-cadence-worth-measuring.155498/post-3061757 for my opinion...
I agree, I watch my cadence more than my speed, it's difficult at first getting it smooth over 95-100 but with practice it can be achieved, I sometimes look at mine (like yesterday) and I was doing 100 up some inclines, though the steeper ones more in the low to mid 80's
My avg for yesterday was 88rpm uphill 87rpm downhill 90rpm so you can see its pretty close and one of the climbs a cat 4 was a bit of a slog, I avg 86rpm 77-99rpm, speed range 7.3-15.7mph avg 9.4, HR 144-164 avg, 156 VAM 564Vm/h
