Help with compact 105

Still getting used to it on 10sp 105 myself. Need to get better at thinking ahead when changing down to the little ring as that's when I get problems, don't want to be doing while actually on a hill! Changing up a gear or 2 on the cassette while changing down the front ring is a PITA, can understand why a couple people have decided to get rid of the compact.

Know what you mean. I often change up about 3 gears at the rear when changing down on the front. I ride at a speed which requires such changing if I want to maintain my cadence without using a dodgy chain line.

It depends on your cassette I run 50/34 with a 12-30 10 speed cassette the 34 is only used when very hilly, like Dwiggy above I often use the 50 with the 30 with no adverse effects, only having 2 chain-rings doesn't make the crossing as extreme as it would be on a triple.

I have a 50-34 front and a 11-28 rear. I find I am often switching chain rings, far more often than I would when commuting on my triple. Not really an issue for me but I think I will try a lower ratio cassette when I need to replace the drive train. Its not very often (if ever) that I use the tallest gear combination yet I will always use the lowest during climbs.

If you don't use the 11 I would definitely go for a lower ratio cassette maybe wit a 46/36 or 46/34 up front.
