As I need to buy a new 50T 130BDC chainring for my Ounce Prowheel triple chainset I found this at http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shimano-105-fc5603-triple-chainring/rp-prod18492 And wondered what the D type option stands for? All other specs are the same .i e the BCD and no of teeth but the chainwheel advertized states it for a ten speed and mine is a 9 speed set up
Anybody got any thought on this would happy to hear them, many thanks Antnee

Modern Shimano chainrings are designed to work better as sets, based on teeth positions, ramps (protrusions and cutouts) and gates (specially shaped teeth) etc. So for road chainsets there are A and B, and mtb chainsets AE, AF, AG etc. D happens to be a triple set that ring at CRC belongs to.

You are probably ok but even within Shimano and for the same bcd one can not always assume that e.g. a set of XT rings can physically fit on a XTR crank or vice versa (DAMHIKT). He has not covered that but nonetheless this is a quite a good article on some compatibility issues.

It is your money but given the Ounce Prowheel is an inexpensive chainset I would probably be reluctant to blow £50 on that ring at crc, but would look around and buy something like this or this instead.
