Hi.

I'm Rob and I'm a complete twit.

That said, I wonder if any experts out there could guide me in the right direction.

I'm building a winter ride and I've gathered together or have on order via various sources the following bits for the groupset:

A shimano 105 fcr hollowtech 2 chainset 50-34 10 speed 170mm
A Dura ace front mech
Pair of Shimano flightdeck double shifters 10 speed
shimano 105 rear derailier RD5700 SS 10 speed
shimano 5700 cassette 12-25 10 speed
Ultegra chain 10 speed

The frame I have is an ali Iceni double butted with ali forks.

Will these parts all work ok together or have I made a complete balls of it ?
Secondly, what bottom bracket will I require - just a shimano 105 BB ?

If I give the impression I haven't a clue what I'm doing.................

Thanks for any help I get

Please don't ask me what the shimano hollowtech sentence is at the bottom of my post because I've absolutely no idea.

I'd say you should be fine with that lot. The only thing to watch is the BB, the two norms are 68mm English threads and 70mm Italian, whichever the frame is will dictate what BB/cups you need, they do not/cannot interchange. It may be stamped on the BB shell, if not I'd ask the manufacturer as with only 2mm difference it'd be very easy to get the wrong one.

As far as BB sizing goes, AASHTA

That's a relief. Thanks for that SS. I'll get the frame out of the garage and see how it measures up regarding the BB.

By the way, I almost rang Steve at Chorley CC but then I saw some soup in a pan on the stove and heated it up instead of making the call.

I might ring him this week as I think the forecast for sunday is ok and I might give it a go.

cheers again.

Have you got a link to the frame you've bought?

The other thing that could be a problem is the front deraillure - they come in two versions - braze or band depending on the frame.

Cheers OL. I did actually check that and it's a band on that I think I needed which is what I've got because the down tube has absolutely nothing on it.

Here is the link to the frame

I'm not 100% sure about the bottom bracket. I've measured the "hole" in the frame and it's about 3.5cm. I don't know if this is English or what. I can't find anything about it on the above link, maybe I've missed it ?

Any advice would be appreciated

Cheers

I've found a link to one for sale on lfgss that's listed as an Iceni Audax/Light Touring frame, and that states English threaded BB, but after a quick mooch I can't find anything on your specific frame.

Contact THESE, they appear to be the UK distributor for Icenti

It's English threaded and 68mm - no other standard or size is sold in the UK these days.

The diameter of the seat tube might be an issue - you've a 1 in 3 chance of having purchased the correct sized front mech.

Hi Mickle.

Thanks for the info.

I've just offered up the front mech and lightly screwed the band onto the downtube and it appears to be just about right I think (If screwed tight there is probably a 3-4mm gap between the two ends of the band meeting together - if that makes sense).

If it is right it was more good luck than judgement
