I wonder if anyone can help me.

I'm trying to install brake cable to a set of shimano 105 flightdeck shifters. I'm threading the cable through at the side but when I've pushed it all the way through it's not obvious to me where the barrel will fit/slot into.

It appears that the part inside the shifter that the cable runs along does get wider at the bottom suggesting that this is maybe where the barrel might go but it's not barrel shaped and it wont fit in anyway - it's too big.

I thought I got the correct shifter cable - it is shimano.

Any help would be appreciated.

cheers

The brake cable goes through the front of the lever not the side. The gear cable goes through the side.

Have you remembered and set the gear to the smallest cog/chairing (pressed the gear lever a few times) it should all be apparent then.

Well I'm building a bike and I've just fixed these 2nd hand shifters to the handlebars and I'm just trying to install new gear and brake cable to the shifters and then tape the bars up ready to put on the stem.

I've put the wheels on the 2nd hand frame and screwed on a new cassette and rear mech and that's it so far.

I've never seen these shifters in action and they came without cable so I've no reference as to where the gear cable barrel goes.

I've tried you tube but couldn't find anything quite specific enough. The tutorials I found were nearly all MTB's or people just unjamming various STI shifters.

I suppose a little picture might help but I'd have to work out how to do that as well
