Hi all

I serviced my headset. It is a semi intergrated Headset made by components. Anyway the lower caged bearing was facing down and the upper caged bearing was facing up when I undid the headset. Is this right???

It has never been tampered with aas was a new bike but just wondering if that sounds right. I put them back that way after servicing them. Is there anyway to tell which way they go up or down at which end?? Are all Headsets the same when it comes to the direction of caged bearings or do they all differ.

My headset has no problems but it just occurred that maybe the manufacture put them in wrong as I usually see bearings facing each other not opposite each other.

Thanks all

Er, that's right!

The lower bearings sit on a race on the top of the fork crown, which is under the lower headset race that shrouds them. The design ensures they don't collect water.

The upper bearings sit under an adjustable race that also shrouds them protecting them from water.
