As from the title i am in need of some advice. I'v been looking at road bikes and they all seem to be sized to large for a person of my size (i'm 5' 5" with an inside leg of about 29"). Should i just resign to not being tall enough and stick to my current bike or has any one eles come up against this and found a solution.

Don't take this the wrong way, but what about a ladies fit? Some of them you would be hard pressed to tell the difference just looking at them. Just that they come in smaller sizes and shorter geometry which may well suit.
My Specialized Ruby only has a slightly sloping bar which you could hardly tell the difference.

Cheshire celt: Thanks i'll have a look in to it see if i would fit them.

Mo1959: I had thought about it i found some junior bike that i thought would do the job also. Just though id ask around and see if anyone eles had found a manufacturer that done some smaller sizes.

I've got a 49cm specialized tricross. I know it's a different bike but as its the same brand and size I'd guess they'd be similar. I'm 5ft 2" and it's a little big for me but ok. I should think you'll find the 49cm a good fit.

I ride a 44cm compact frame (sloping top tube) or 50cm horizontal, 5'5", 31.3" inside leg (crotch to floor). Bikes around this size certainly exist, but rarely stocked.

there are pleanty of bikes around that would fit you, you would need to pop into a store but a 50 would most likly fit and most good bike store will be able to get hold of them for you if you ask, what sort of budget do you have?>

I have a 29 inside leg and had no trouble with a medium framed boardman bike, infact iv'e got 2.
And i still feel its too small for me.
Go in halfords or any lbs and sit on a few

A 52cm specialized will fit you- I used to have one and am slightly shorter than you are but with a similar inseam measurement.

Giant's small compact frame and Ribble also do some good sizing- my other bikes.

Thanks for the advise guy's i just got the wrong idea from the sizing guide on most of the sites. I'll go to my LBS and have a look once i give it a bit more thought, my current bike will do work the moment. My budget is pretty flexible depending on the overtime i want to work.

Hey up mate, I am 5'5'' with an inside leg of 28'' and ride a 51cm horizontal top tube frame no problem. I also ride my winter/work bike with a 44cm frame and a lot of seat post out no problem.
There are plenty out there you just have to order them sometimes. Apart from the last few years due to health issues I have been an avid cyclist for 40 years and have never been unable to find a frame to suit.
I myself am fancying a Ribble next, give them a look. Hope you get sorted soon.

Just to clarify things guys, when you say 'inside leg xx"' are you talking trouser leg length or pubic bone height? (PBH = floor to crotch, no shoes).

Well this could be where im going wrong, i was assuming that it was trouser leg length. Again these things aren't exactly clear on most size charts on websites.
