Interesting that the shift lever bosses have been brazed on, but these could have been done when a re-spray was done.

How much that the bare frame and fork each weigh can suggest if this frame was built from a full and butted set of 531 tubes.

Very nice, interesting find. Identifying it could take a long time.

@Sustineo that looks all correct and yes they did rod brakes until about 1978. If you check on the tube down from the seatpost you will find the corresponding Raleigh serial number that will also give you the year and the place it was made (that's were the corresponding mans version was). It will be on the side or rear of the tube going vertically down.

The number you mention is the postcode and house number most likely . Yep, they did do rod brakes at that time. Awful to PDI !

Agree about rod brakes, initially agreed about postcode, as SH24 1XT 39 certainly looks like the postcode format, but there aren't any SH postcodes.
Could it be SM (Sutton and Morden), or SK (Stockport)?

I only look at this site once in a blue moon so sorry for delay. The bike is not one of mine to the best of my knowledge. No reason why it should not be a Jim Soens but equally it might be a frame bought "in the rough" and then painted, perhaps from Holdsworth. Nothing wrong with it. Very common design with the Nervex lugs etc.
