Help for my friend in Bristol

I cant afford a CX bike, going to use the road bike, any recommendations for knobbly tyres that'll fit a road bike wheel, caliper set up.

A quick bit of googleing shows that most CX tyres are 700Cx30 and wider. You'll have to check the frame and fork has clearance for tyres that wide.
