Help cleaning my chain

Correct me I'm wrong.

Cheers

If your chain has got very manky it's very hard for the The Method alone to get on top of it. It's a method of chain maintenance not a rescue program.

I cannot bring myself to recommend actually degreasing your chain with a solvent or, heaven forbid, exposing your chain with WD85/GT40 - for all the reasons explained in the linked article. But once it's super manky I guess there's no alternative.

The key thing to remember about The Method is that by keeping to its priciples you should never need to degrease a chain ever again. Regular wiping keeps the grime under control, whilst regular lubing keeps the inner workings lubed. Repeat.

But you have to start with a clean chain.

Following on from getting the Method link in another thread, I think I did catch mine in time and thank you for it. I will admit I went through about 6/7 cycles of Wipe – lube – wipe – wipe – wipe before little/no grime was coming off the chain but I'm a lot happier doing that a lot to start with than like you say mucking around with solvents etc

I'll be cleaning my chain this weekend as its super dirty, shows you what i knew about chains too, i always cover the chain in oil and leave it at that, its only know i use the bike most days i realise how often it needs to be cleaned.

Will the above method clean the cassette also?
