If you get a mtb you will definitely have the front suspension, which adds quite a lot of weight. If you are using your bike mainly on the road, you would probably want a lock out fork - which will make it more expensive. From what you describe you want it for, I would go for something like the subway (don't know anything about the globe, so can't comment).
