I'm not a fan of helmet mounted lights other than for MTB night rides. I find then more of a nuisance from the point of the approaching cyclist. Especially high powered ones that folk don't turn down on shared paths.

I've resisted putting anything significant on my helmet for fear it may compromise protection. Struck me that the obvious solution is lots of small LEDs mounted in the vents, especially facing forward, but the only thing I can find is this: http://www.awcycles.co.uk/busch-and-muller-topfire-cycle-helmet-lights.html

Whilst googling I came across this http://torchapparel.eu/ which is a bit more restrained than the kickstarter mentioned on p1. Bit lacking in vents, so definitely a winter lid.

I cant even imagine how hot you would get wearing that. 26 Vents in my current helmet and its dripping when I take it off after a 2 hour ride.
Although, I think these helmets are more for the "pottering around town" folk who dont use lycra out in public :shy:

I realised another thing I like about the helmet mounted lights is that it helps alert people behind you if you are intending to move lanes, as the over-shoulder glance means there's a light which moves too.
It seems my AyUp lights are supposed to come off in a collision as they are only mounted with small velcro pads.... still on the fence here. I suspect the helmet mounted lights might reduce my chance of a collision worsen the outcome of any collision I am in.
I'm a non-lycra wearing potterer so no issues there ;)

Velcro pads, mounts that are designed to break etc are all well and good until you come off and spear into the ground directly on to the light. It could be held on with blu tac and it would matter not if you go directly onto it.

Yeah that thought did occur to me.
I also fished out the head-mount (it came with the lights) and it's elastic so again supposed to come off but... doesn't feel right (aside from looking like a right idiot).
