This line is the one that interests me,
Over one year we conducted a case-control study in which the case patients were 235 persons with head injuries received while bicycling, who sought emergency care at one of five hospitals.

How many people did not go to hospital because a helmet helped prevent injury?

Thornhill in Glasgow showed that when you look at ALL admissions cyclists don't even figure as a significant group

I wear a helmet, not because it would guarantee my safety in a crash, but because I feel they offer reasonable protection in 'medium' impacts. Collisions with other cyclists, low bridges on canal toll paths (my main problem) or just crashing at low speeds. Such collisions may not be potentially fatal but a helmet may protect me from a not too insignificant amount of pain or a trip to the local hospital for stitches.

Clearly in very severe accidents the protection is limited or non existent but I would still prefer to have an helmet on if I go over a car bonnet if one pulls out on me.

As for children, they are not old enough to make an informed decision so I believe parents should insist on helmet wearing for their children and therefore be prepared to set an example.

Apart from perhaps extra heat retention in hot weather I don't see what the down sides are to wearing a helmet. May be cost.

Can I just make sure that I have this correct - you are really suggesting that we should prevent head injuries in children by making them wear head protection and that adults should wear the same protection as an example?

Which is exactly the point of the Thudguard.
