I always wonder why it is 'an hotel'.
It isn't nowadays.
It used to be "an hotel" because our betters pronounced "hotel" like ze French, and one could hardly say "a 'otel" ...

An helmet is probably technically correct but in modern day English usage, a helmet is probably normal.
Personally, I prefer to call them a "pointless waste of time" (polite version)
