I wouldn't replace it. The shell of the helmet has taken two small point impacts and the styrofoam has been crushed slightly. As long as the helmet is intact and not cracked it will still do its job if you hit your noggin on the ground - why on Earth wouldn't it? The lower part of my helmet where it's not covered by the thin cosmetic shell has all kinds of dents and scars but they are no reason to chuck it away.

I would send it back for inspection by an expert.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Rightoh, firstoff i dont want a helmet debate, this is only for helmet wearers !

I done the coast to coast, in my brand new £80 helmet, two days in and the kid infront spat some gravel up when we were going downhill at 47 mph, it came straight for my face but i winced and turned my head and luckily it hit my helmet just above the ear and smashed my shades off my face but its put two little holes in my helmet, each about the size of a five pence piece,

Do you think the i integrity of the helmet is knackered, or should it be ok in the event i need it next time ?

Be gutted to have to buy another one !
Picture?

MInor impacts atill compress and damage the structure, thus weakening the helmet an compromising its function, but given that:

I was glad it was my helmet, because if it had of been my head i wouldnt like to think what the outcome would have been, be like getting shot in the head, smashed my shades clean off my face as well, which saved my eyes too

.. there is really no choice after such a high impact

That rather depends on whether the damage the size of a 5p piece is a dent in the plastic shell, a dent in the polystyrene, or something different.

Pictures, please!

I would also replace.

it may look fine & indeed be fine & suffered only cosmetic damage but you never can tell just by looking.

my 1st wife was great to look at but turned out to be the demonic spawn of Lucifer who clawed up through hell with orders to seek out & destroy as many men as she could.

couldn't tell she was like that by looking

What make is it? I ask because you say it is brand new and one of the major manufacturer will replace it at 40% (IIRC) cost of a new helmet - they being Specialised. You have to contact their customer services and buy a new one from them when they receive the old one in return. I have used this service when I smashed my helmet into 5 pieces Easter last year....

Also pictures would assist, but if you are in doubt, personally for the sake of £80 and piece of mind (sorry for the really bad pun) I would replace it.

But...
We have the anecdotal evidence of just how serious an injury was avoided.

With such as serious potential outcome, we have to assume the worst.

On the "evidence" given by the OP, there is no option butto replace

Looks to me like minor surace damage. The plastic shell is very flimsy and will be pierced easily. The polystyrene can be cut like butter if the cutting object is sharp enough - and I'd guess that what hit was the sort of flint that will go through a Marathon plus. The other dent is very minor - no more than would be caused by dropping it onto a hard floor. I wouldn't bother replacing, especially at £80.*

I'm no expert, but I suspect that the stone that caused the hole would have caused spectacular bleeding but no real damage if had hit half an inch lower; the other one would have felt like a pinprick.

*£80 for a Boardman?! Why?! My Specialized, bought because I thought I ought to ride Ride London with an intact helmet to avoid any embarrassing insurance questions in the unlikely event of an off, was £45 in a shop which tends not to be at the bargain end.
