I recently replaced my rotor and my brake pads because I accidentally contaminated it with W4-40 it's all cleaned now with brake cleaner and rubbing alcohol. However, my rear brakes are fine it skids good. But my front brake is slow stopping, and if i make it even more tighter then my front wheel will start to rub which isn't a good thing. I still have stopping power but my rear brake seems more powerful because it skids good. However, my front brake doesn't skid i don't know if that's normal and it's not contaminated.

You dont want a front skid.

Try a few fast stops so you get the pads bedded in again.

Google mtb brake pad bedding in etc

I'm no mechanic, but I know you don't ever want your front wheel to skid.

Surely if you lock up the front wheel so it skids then the chances are your face is heading for the tarmac ?..

I've recently replaced my pads and my rotor because i accidentally put some WD-40 on it and yes i'm never doing that again and i've learned from my mistakes but my front brakes are slow stopping is that normal or it's supposed to be an instant stop? I have a mountain bike btw. And my back rear is stopping normal has it should. Maybe it's normal to not to skid because then I won't go flying on the handle bars?

They need some time to bed in. Which can be accelerated by pouring coca cola over the disc or slathering themtint muddy water.

I hope you cleaned the WD40 off the disc.... Or else you've ruined another set of pads.

When you brake sharply the momentum throws your weight forwards which means the weight over the rear wheel is reduced and the weight going through the front wheel is increased. That makes it much easier for the rear wheel to lock up.
