All Raleighs built up to the turn of the milennium anyway can be considered to be of trusty and reliable quality - even the low budget ones. Raleigh used to make a million or so bikes a year, over more than a hundred year period. You will see them absolutely everywhere in the UK, and they are still fairly common in many other english-speaking countries and ex-colonies of the British Empire.

Cheers, that's good to know. I can see they're pretty ubiquitous - I was thinking, if and when I get back to UK, a Pioneer would be my best bet for a functional bike under 50 quid. The only concern I got is, how much do those things weigh? (Probably still less than my Trek.)

Well, it's finally not cold enough for a proper ride (to a local forest park, a 20 km round trip).

Also, a taxi coming off a side street actually yielded to me. I should buy a lottery ticket.
