surely an aheadsets key maintenance win is you can adjust it if need be on the road/trail without a comedy pair of spanners.

Can't say I've ever needed to adjust mine on the road.... but I take Greg's point, even if mine was intended to be ironic....

After having heard the same headset questions about a squillion times I have come to the conclusion that if you are going to get the head set adjustment right you will have figured out how works on your own and you have the feel for how tight it should be without trying that hard.

When it needs the lengthy on-line explanations you kind of get the impression that they would be much better off popping it in at a LBS.

I think a lot of mechanical stuff is almost an artistic talent and it largely can't be taught - you either have it or you don't.

The information is in plenty of books - and available on here that prefer to get their information on-line.

Artistic talent ? Isn't that what you have? A talent for forum posts that are at best unhelpful, at worst patronising?

Surely you must be mistaken? Zoiders is an authority on chain wear although he is too coy to admit the source of his wisdom despite three requests to do so. He is clearly therefore so naturally talented, he has no need of instruction or learning . He has a great future.

Pack it in you tiresome bore, any more personal attacks and this goes to to the mods so I suggest you pack it in, if you still have a problem then speak to them yourself - just remember that you not liking things that people say is not the same as what they say being wrong or somehow an excuse for you to have a go in thread after thread.

Moving on to conversation with sane people...

There are loads of step by step guides online but people still struggle, on the forum I have seen dozens of people asking for headset help because despite the online guides they just can't quite get it right even when they are walked through it by people in the knowledge section.

The spatial awareness and the ability to learn how to the feel for how tight a headset should be is something that can not always be taught, regardless of how otherwise intelligent the person may be in other areas they may simply struggle and they would be better taking it to the local bike shop.

I have worked with people with learning difficulties and managed to show them how to correctly set up a headset - I have also worked with graduates who are completely inept with all things mechanical and will remain so no matter how many books and online guides they read.

Without getting into all this "people being abused" crap, I think Zoiders may have a point. Some people simply aren't mechanically minded and no matter how often they are shown how to make the simplest mechanical adjustment, they'll never get it right.

I'm starting to get a complex with all this.

The advice I receive from people on this forum to me is inalvaluable.

I hope you don't mind me saying so zoiders but as the OP I did read your initial post and think you were slightly patronising. I understand this is your opinion however and that's fine

OK. Enough of the personal attacks and insults. This is no help at all to the OP. Keep it on topic or action will be taken.
