Thanks! What's the deal with doubled letters? If you put a word with a doubled letter in and they both go orange, does it mean you need both or could it be giving you the same info twice?

The coder's explanation is this:
I wasn’t sure what how the original Wordle game handles duplicate letters so I made up my own set of rules for how it would happen. First, if there are multiple instances of a single letter (e.g. two ‘E’s in a word) and you make a guess of a word with two ‘E’. If one is in the correct spot and one is in the wrong spot, one will be green and the other orange. If both are in the wrong spot, they will both be orange. If there is only one ‘E’ in the answer but you guess two, one will be black and the other will be green or orange depending on its position.

Not liking that 6 letter version. It's a lot harder to come up with possible words to fit, once you have a couple of confirmed letters.

Well mow I'm feeling really smug after getting that in two goes.

I utterly failed another one that appeared to have only one vowel and didn't contain Y.
It had a vowel repeated, of course...

Like Brandane I find I have a bit of a block thinking of words to fit in the six-letter version once you have a couple of letters in place. I made up a word to sacrifice a guess and try and move on but it just told me off with a brusque 'Not a Word'. Anyway I did a bit better on the second go but it took forever.

I did something very similar to you - I forgot that you get no clues when the doubled letter is in the word but you've only found one.
