I someimes use adieu and there's also audio and ouija but I don't like using what I consider "silly" words.

A while ago I was doing it and I became convinced that the answer should be acorn. Acorn is such a good word. I was unaccountably angry when it told me that it wasn't.

The word I was referring to a couple of posts ago is miaou but, like you, I prefer standard words.

Used the first two but hadn't thought of ouija.

Is it an acceptable word?

I'll have to have a go with Welsh, Irish and Scots sometime. To see if it's discriminating against Maori people.;)

Just tried it.

"Scots" and "Welsh" are allowed. "Irish" isn't.

"Yorks" is, "Lancs" isn't.

As someone born in Yorkshire with a Welsh mother, this seems perfectly reasonable. My only question is "why let the jocks in, but discriminate against the micks"?

Then it turns out both "Jocks" and "Micks" are, in fact, allowable!

I can confidently state I think it's highly unlikely I will ever get a hole in one, as I've started using the word from the previous day as my starting guess.

This approach appeals to me. Saves both the small effort of thinking of a new word and the mild discomfort I feel when using a regular starter word.

Uncommon words are best rejected as the possible choices do not come from the full dictionary.

This is true. My brain sometimes tends to see the uncommon words first- so there isn't always a choice to make.

In French Wordle I frequently play words from chemistry because I learned then in my job and they just come to mind easily- azote, brome, etain (that last one isn't a bad starter)

Has anyone tried Worldle yet? I came across it on twitter: "I present you Worldle. You’re given a map of a country/territory. If you get it wrong, it will tell you how close you are and give you the direction and distance from the right answer 🗺 "

Don't know why it isn't pasting correctly but it doesn't seem to show how frustrating that one was as there really couldn't have been many more options from the letters I had.
