Just in case anyone was wondering, the single size mount fits the new Magicshine 1400 as well, with (I timed it) 47 seconds of screwdrivering and flipping of the round screw carrier on the mount. Best two quid ever spent? Possibly.

More info:

Dealextreme My link

Magicshine UK, My link

There are various models, but the ones with the new sealed batteries are the ones to go for

Really like the look of these but I am a bit confused by the above, specifically:
- the dealextreme one shows a silver battery with the LCD power display (which I assume is the latest battery)
- but the official Magicshine sites shows what looks like the old battery pack with the bag. From other sellers it seems that the battery inside this bag is black with a plastic looking cover (which I assume is the old battery type)
- there are also a number of sellers (mainly on Ebay) offering different coloured versions of the same light, such as this Magicshine Black version. However, there is no black version on the Magicshine website that I could find.

I want to buy the latest version with the new battery at the lowest price available and would really appreciate some help, in order to avoid making a mistake.

Thanks!

The latest battery has the lcd display, if the official website does not show it email them they may not have updated the picture.

When I last spoke to Bonita at Magicshine UK in Sep 2010 she said they don't always know which version of the MJ-808 will be arriving in the consignment from China - there is a 5 mode and 3 mode version of head unit and a black heat shrink wrapped battery or the newer silver cased version. Things may have changed over the last 4-5 months however so it is probably worth checking with them.

Many thanks for the responses.

One supplier I approached told me that:

"I have that battery (meaning the silver LCD version) in stock but as a cyclist I prefer the one I supply (meaning the one that comes in a silicon case and a nylon pouch that straps to your frame with 2 straps). Both batteries are essentially the same inside and the one with the LCD display is actually older than the one I supply as standard."

The two previous posts say the opposite. Which is correct?

Confused!

Received a very helpful response from Magicshine UK which makes everything clear:

"The MJ808 was originally sold with a battery which was IP64 rated, it was fine but had some reliability problems with regards to water ingress! The Magicshine factory took on board the fact that they needed to improve the battery and designed a rubberised battery pack that was IP67 rated (the one in the case with two velcro straps) this means it can be immersed in water up to a depth of 1m.

The factory also designed a battery called the MJ828 which is IP67 rated, silver in colour and comes with an LED power display. We sell this battery as an accessory as it can be used with any of our lightsets and is not specifically designed for the MJ808 or MJ816.

In general most people buy the MJ808 with the rubberised battery this is the standard set sold by Magicshine. If you prefer you can have the MJ828 battery with this set for no extra charge, it really is a matter of personal taste. Personally I can't see the need for the LED display on the battery because you have an indicator on the back of the MJ808 which changes from green 100%, to blue 75%, to Yellow 50% and then red 25% and this is more than adequate for the needs of most people."

I have the plastic coated pack and the silver pack with the lcd display. Took the silver pack apart and the battery pack inside looks identical to the other one

Thats because they use the same battery. The one with the LCD display shows you how much charge is left in the battery and adds better water protection.

Thanks for that tincaman.
I did a google search and found them in the UK for £67.99 - £72.99. Smatackle.co.uk (Fishing shop)
The lower price was for an older model (I think!)
The higher price is the latest model with new improved battery.
I'd rather get them from the UK as there's less chance that they get damaged and not so far to send back if they go wrong.
I still havn't made my mind up yet though but they do look pretty good and everyone raves about them.

Right folks, after much deliberation i have today ordered my Magicshine MJ808 with the latest battery pack(MJ828).
I have been told that i'll receive it on tuesday so cannot wait, i even get a free headstrap so i can use it for other things etc.
Purchased from Smatackle.co.uk for £72.99 plus postage.
I'll report on my verdict Wed after charging.

Well i received my Magicshine MJ808 with the latest battery from smatackle.co.uk and what can i say other than i'm totally impressed.
A brilliant piece of kit thats well worth the money. I put it on my bike and rode around my local lakes, i shone everything up including a fisherman who near jumped out of his skin!
I had a great pre/after sales service from the supplier and would highly recommend them to anybody else.
Next purchase will be the rear light. I'll post my verdict on that when i get some spare cash soon.

*THREAD RESURRECTION ALERT*

Sorry to dig up this old thread but I am looking for an improved mount for my MJ-808 light after one O-ring broke and the other went missing.

The Electron bracket as sold by CRC has been discontinued and I am having trouble finding an alternative. The closest I can find is a 2012 model bracket that is also sold by CRC but I can't see how it would attach to the base of my light.

What options are out there for someone wishing to improve on Magicshine's mounting system?
