Thought I'd share this with y'all.

I have joined the Magic Shine gang and got a MJ-816 but as many have remarked, the O ring mount is pants.

A trawl around the old interweb brought up the posibility of usign Marwi mounts:

http://www.el34world...kesLights38.htm

Order it here:

http://www.hoffmanamps.com/MyStore/perlshop.cgi?ACTION=enter&template&thispage=BikeLights& ORDER_ID=!ORDERID!

You need to buy:
Magic Shine to Marwi adapter - $3.50
New style Marwi Handle Bar Mount - $8.75

Yes that's in dollars cos it is from the US. Plus it's about $6 postage. It seems a lot but I have to say the new fitting is infintiely better than the o ring attachment. The light slides on an off the mount like a dream, and you have horizonatal and vertical adjustment of the light beam. A couple of things to note:

1. You don't actually have to take the power lead off and resolder as suggested in the blurb on the website. If you get a drill and drill a groove along the middle of the top side of the mount you can bolt in the new mount and run the wire along teh drilled groove. Thsi will make more sense once you get the kit and you will see what I mean.

2. You will need to buy a short 6mm nut and bolt combo.

The new setup looks much more stable and I'm lookign forward to giving it a ride in the next few days to check it works as good as it appears. Will report back later.

Sorry to burst your bubble..

You can do it cheaper and without buying any more nuts..

I followed the instructions i found on bike radar..

Bracket cost £2.99 from Chainreaction, all i did was take the head off , tuurn the round bit of plastic over that the bolt goes through so the bolt does not stick up so high and voila ! , mine looks exactly like the above piccie !

Edit ..Of course you take off the base off the light to start with

LOL - that looks far simpler (and way cheaper) than my effort.

I am desperately looking to see what advantage my setup has and I can only see one minor one - my setup allows easier vertical adjustment, without having to twist the clamp on the bar.

But to be honest your simpler setup looks far better. Hey ho.

Or you could do what i did, and make a mount using reflector unit, all i required to buy was a longer screw which cost me 15p. ^_^

Only downside is you can't remove it quickly. But i always have a screwdriver in my bag and never have to remove it

Hi, i was going to try this but hoped you could clarify something, the one for 2.99 isn't the one in your picture, the one you pictured is the Electron EHP300/305/310/315/320/330 and its now 1.99. Is that the right one, before I buy the wrong one?

Thanks

Search on here or Google. About £53 from China, about £80 sourced in the UK

Thanks for that tincaman.
I did a google search and found them in the UK for £67.99 - £72.99. Smatackle.co.uk (Fishing shop)
The lower price was for an older model (I think!)
The higher price is the latest model with new improved battery.
I'd rather get them from the UK as there's less chance that they get damaged and not so far to send back if they go wrong.
I still havn't made my mind up yet though but they do look pretty good and everyone raves about them.

The lower price is sometimes for a lower spec battery too !

There's some useful background (I found all the different battery/LED/run times a tad confusing) here. I bought one of these and am waiting for an ice/frost free night to go and test it
