I never had a problem with uncomfortable bar tape and I try not to use gloves in nice weather.

I got a load of grease on my white tape the other day by accident. I was gutted. Until I put cleaned it with some bleach and a toothbrush as a last resort. They are now very white. I was a little worried that the tape would turn pink, bleach does that to some things.

Sounds pricey CoG. In my extensive bar-tape buying experience (purchased 2 lots), I have spent around 5 or 6 pounds each time!

No they aren't, although they may vary in size at the point where the stem clamps them, the area under the bar tape is the same diameter on every drop handlebar bike you have ever seen.
You can get bars that are oversized all the way across the tops;)

On bar tape: Cinelli cork for comfort, fizik microtex for staying white!

I think specialized bar phat with the little gel pads that it includes is very comfy.
My fixie has got gel pads and two layers of tape and it is still slightly uncomfortable on the hands, my summer bike has got one layer of bar phat and is not uncomfortable on the hands at all. That may be due to the fact it is all carbon and the fixie is all steel however.

maybe, not past the hoods area though - they have to be a standard diameter so the shifters can fit on
