Just had a look at my headset and its crunchy , a trip to the LBS is on order as i know you can bodge it with a block of wood and hammer etc but i would rather let them play with head set and a proper headset press.Take it to the LBS if there's risk of further damage

One of the few jobs i will let the LBS do, the rest im happy to do .Very sensible that man!
As I'm still learning what do you suggest works I can do at home and what's best for the LBS? At the moment all I have done is just clean and lube. I have put a new chain on a couple of months ago but nothing else apart trying to change the headset (disaster). One of the few jobs i will let the LBS do, the rest im happy to do .

It is carbon, have I ruin my steerer? Is it a difficult job for the LBS?Is it a carbon steerer? If you've overtightened the steerer bung (and the crack may indicate this) you may have made the steerer tube bulge thus making it difficult for the stem to slide off - which it should do easily. Take it to the LBS
